Fuerza Democrats Tennessee Announces New Executive Director to Lead Statewide Efforts Supporting Latino Candidates

Fuerza Democrats Tennessee (Fuerza), the 1st state-level political action committee dedicated to recruiting, training, and funding Latino candidates across Tennessee, is proud to announce the appointment of Selena Chávez as its new Executive Director.

Chávez brings with her extensive experience in grassroots community organizing, advocacy, and cross-sector partnerships. In Tennessee, she led fundraising efforts for immigrant communities, raising critical funds for disaster and COVID relief. Building on her social impact commitment, she contributed to the development and implementation of regional programs in the Arab world in partnership with the European Union and global nonprofits. Chávez has also facilitated branding and strategic communication workshops for social enterprises in the Arab world and Latin America, while leading critical conversations on justice and equality. As the new Executive Director, she will spearhead efforts to expand Fuerza’s reach, ensuring Latino voices are represented in all levels of government.

“Growing up Colombian in Tennessee, I didn’t think I held much influence in politics. But the polarization of our country has assured me of who I am and how I want to show up in political spaces,” says Chávez. “I’m honored to lead this organization and work with communities across Tennessee to strengthen representation and advance policies that reflect our community’s shared values,” Selena Chávez, Executive Director.

Fuerza was created to form a support system where one didn’t exist. For 16 years, it has been empowering Latinos across Tennessee to shape the future through political participation and it aims to continue to expand and grow its political impact. As Chair of Fuerza, Rep. Gabby Salinas affirms that Fuerza is ready to meet this moment. “Latinos in Tennessee are educators, entrepreneurs, essential workers and also leaders. Supporting Latino candidates means investing in voices that reflect our communities, our values, and our future. With the support we’ve received, we have already made electoral history, and we’re ready to build on that success.” Fuerza’s backing has included candidates such as Ailina Carona (HD57), Luis Mata (HD49) and Sandra Sepulveda, (CW D30).

Under Chávez leadership, the PAC will work to increase Latino representation in state politics by identifying emerging leaders, providing them with training to run for office, and offering them strategic financial support to champion the interests of communities across Tennessee.
